Credit certainly goes to Jo the Loiterer for picking up on a newspaper article that mentioned my interest in puzzles. He brought me to the 1997 convention, where I met all the wonderful NPL people and had a blast. Credit also goes to QED for making me stay an extra night for more Mafia-filled conventioning. I signed up on the spot.

Besides the fact that I like the word, my nom wound up applying to my convention experience in two ways. In the first place, I was somewhat of an Anomaly there . . . being the youngest by a few years and being a non-NPLer. But even more appropriately, I was a-nom-alous for the entire convention, so I decided to remain that way permanently - Anomaly!
