Games used to sponsor an event called the U.S. Open Crossword Tournament. At the end of the third competition that Momus attended, he was speaking with a small group that included En, Double-H (Henry Hook), Arachne, and Senor, during which Momus learned of the NPL; Senor was the one that handed Momus the mini-sample that induced him to join.
