Btnirn

Recruitment

In 1992, I spent 10 weeks at a summer mathematics program at the University of Oklahoma (in Norman), with nine other math students. There isn't a lot to do in Norman during the summer, especially when you don't have access to a car, so we had a lot of free time. One of the other students, Alice, seemed to spend much of that free time working on these strange little word puzzles, and, since I had nothing better to do, I started joining in. By the end of the summer, I was hooked.

Nom

Btnirn is an acronym for “But that's not important right now”, a phrase best known from the Airplane! movies. I tend to use the acronym in entirely too much of my personal correspondence.

Combinoms

  • Urn: Ucaoimhu/Btnirn.
  • Btu: Btnirn/Ucaoimhu.
  • Ubu: Ucaoimhu & Btnirn (for when it's not clear who wrote what) (Ubu is the dog from the production tag at the end of the TV show Family Ties.)
