I'd always been a word/puzzle person, but the Enigma seemed like Greek to me at first. And then it started making sense …

“Saphir” is the name of a character in “Patience”, my favorite Gilbert & Sullivan operetta (“patience” also being something you need lots of to solve flats :). It also reminds me of William Safire, who writes about words. And it anagrams to “parish”, which has nothing to do with anything, but is neat anyways.
